MARCH & DISTRICT POOL LEAGUE
At the 2014/15 AGM the League members voted to change what happens when a KO match finishes in a draw. Instead of playing a deciding frame we will now have a "penalty shoot-out", as used in official Blackball competitions like Golden 8Ball. An explanation of how we will apply the rule follows:
Penalty Shoot-out Rule
1 = Each captain picks 4 players to take the penalties, and lists them on the back of the card, with the designated Home team writing theirs down first. If a team has less than 4 players then they automatically forfeit the relevant number of penalties. If a team has more than 4 players then the additional player(s) will be unable to take part in the shoot-out.
2 = The team that won the original lag at the start of the match has the option of going first or second in the shoot-out.
3 = The teams alternate taking the penalties, with the players taking their turns in the order written on the back of the card.
4 = Any colour ball can be used as the object ball. This is to prevent increased costs from having to pay to retrieve the black ball from the table for every penalty, as not all tables can be put on free play. The easiest way to do it would be to have one team play at reds and the other team play at yellows (or their equivalents).
5 = The object ball is placed on the black ball spot at the rack end of the table. The player can position the white ball anywhere behind the baulk line.
6 = The player must pot the object ball, using one shot, to score the penalty. The object ball can go into any pocket on the table, the pocket does not have to be called or nominated before the shot is taken.
7 = If the object ball fails to pot, or the white ball is potted, or any foul is committed, then the penalty is considered a miss.
8 = If the score is a draw after both teams have taken all 4 shots, then a sudden death round begins, repeating the same order of play written down at the start of the shoot-out. This is important, the captains cannot change the playing order once it reaches sudden death.
9 = In sudden death, the same rules are applied as above, the object ball goes on the black spot and the player has the white ball in hand behind the baulk line.
10 = Both players must take their shot – i.e. if player one misses, then their opponent must take their shot and pot to win. If both players pot or both players miss, then it moves to the next players on the list, and so on until we have a winning team.
